Every school needs stationery, and a lot of it. But, how do you know your stationery company is giving you real value for your money? A lot of companies make promises to pay back a percentage from ‘back to school’ sales but fail to follow through on those promises.
Then we heard that schools have received over R70 million back from Bidvest Waltons’ Back2School campaign since its inception. That’s what we’d call — ‘putting your money where your mouth is.’ To find out how schools can get in on the action, SchoolAdvisor asked Olivia, Schools Group Manager for Bidvest Waltons, some questions.
Q: How much has Bidvest Waltons paid back to schools?
A: We have given back more than R70 million in the past 19 years of being in the Back2School business. In the most recent years, it is in the region of R4,5 million per season.
Q: How does a school get money back and when?
A: Bidvest Waltons contributes a percentage of the sales generated through the Back2School orders to the participating school. This is Bidvest Waltons’ way of thanking the school for communicating with parents, and collecting and distributing the orders.
All schools are paid out at the end of each trading year, i.e. 31st March of the new year.
As a MySchool partner, Bidvest Waltons also contributes a percentage of sales towards your selected school or charitable organizations, when purchasing at any of our retail stores.
Q: What services/products do schools get money back on?
A: Schools will receive money for any purchase made through our Back2School departments. School orders can range from our catalogue ordering, online purchasing, pre-packed orders or school bulk orders.
Our comprehensive range of stock includes stationery, computers, printers, supplies and filing, as well as furniture and a range of catering & hygiene products. We also help schools cater for bulk stationery needs, supplying anything from stationery or whiteboards to notebooks and art supplies.
Our wide range of stock is available from our Back2School departments, our online shop, or from over 75 branches located across South Africa.
Q: What makes Bidvest Waltons unique when it comes to servicing schools?
A: We are a business with more than 60 years of experience and have been the market leaders within the private school environment for more than 19 years.
Our Back2School catalogue makes ordering stationery quick and easy. It is compiled annually based on years of experience and feedback from teachers across the country. The catalogue comes with order forms, allowing students and teachers to select their individual stationery requirements and utilise one of our convenient payment options.
Bidvest Waltons’ experienced sales staff are available to visit your educational facility throughout the year. We also provide schools with the option to place a single bulk order for all their supplies at the end or beginning of each year.
The Waltons.co.za website lets you order and pay via credit card and debit cards, where we offer a full range of Back2School catalogue products. You can choose to collect your order at your choice of Bidvest Waltons retail store or have it delivered to your school, home, or business for a nominal charge.
Q: How does a school sign up to become a Bidvest Waltons client to get money back?
A: The school simply needs to contact our regional Back2School offices and one of our consultants will take them through the process.
Hearing from Bidvest Waltons, we decided to speak to a school that had received R20 000 back to hear what they had to say. Morag Benet, recently retired head of La Lucia Junior Primary had the following to say:
“We have always used Bidvest Waltons and I must stress that the reason that we used them more than anything was the value for money and the service to the school and parents. The money paid back was always an unexpected and welcome bonus. It was always a substantial amount and has grown substantially over the years. We have used it to buy computers, TV’s and even playground equipment.“
‘Good on ya’ Bidvest Waltons! SchoolAdvisor is excited to see evidence of a stationery supplier actually giving schools back what they deserve.
