What Should a Teacher Look Out for When it Comes to Healthcare and Medical Aid?

School staff members are faced with various challenges relating to medical aid membership and access to private healthcare. It is important to have good quality, reliable and cost-effective private healthcare cover.

But what should you look for when it comes to healthcare and medical aid? We recently discovered that healthcare and medical aid specialists, NMG offer a primary healthcare solution for ISASA member schools from as little as R245 (excl. VAT) per month.

This, of course, caught our attention. So, we thought that we’d ask NMG for their expert advice for teachers on non-government posts.

Q: What are the core components that your medical aid should cover?
A: Your medical aid should have unlimited out-of-hospital cover, cover for chronic medication and cover you for traumatic events in a private hospital.

Q: Do you need broker or should you go direct to medical aid?
A: It is advisable to use a broker, which does not affect the cost of your plan. They have the experience and expertise to advise according to specific needs. Brokers give advice on the most cost effective solutions.

Q: What is the benefit to a school if they work with an organisations such as yourself rather than the teachers individually making their own decision?
A: We have negotiated a collective and cost effective arrangement with the best providers in the market. We also complement the product with a high level of member support and ongoing client service.

Q: What solutions do you have on offer that would be good for schools and for teachers?
A: Healthcare consulting, member support, cost effective primary healthcare solutions, gap cover solutions, wellness programmes, ongoing monitoring of service levels and appropriate healthcare cover.

Q: For schools, you offer a ‘proactive approach to healthcare’ – what is this and why is it important?
A: We determine primary needs and address healthcare trends before more serious levels of healthcare demand/events lead to higher costs for members and schools.

Q: How can they contact you?
A: Lindi Bruce: 021 943 1800 or lbruce@nmg.co.za

We hope that you now have a clear understanding of what to look out for when it comes to healthcare and medical aid. If you are looking for affordable and comprehensive health cover and medical aid, give NMG a call.
